With a Deadline Quickly Approaching, Democrats on the Hill in Hartford Can’t Find the Votes to Pass Their Own State Budget which is Loaded with Tax Increases

With a Deadline Quickly Approaching, Democrats on the Hill in Hartford Can’t Find the Votes to Pass Their Own State Budget which is Loaded with Tax Increases!!!

Democrats Struggle To Find Budget Votes In House

Maybe some Democrats were Spooked by the National Publication – The Wall  Street Journal – and its recent Publication which Described Connecticut as

Worse Than Illinois!!!

The Wall Street Journal writes…..The Census Bureau says Connecticut was one of six states that lost population in fiscal 2013-2014, and a Gallup poll in the second half of 2013 found that about half of Nutmeg Staters would migrate if they could. Now the Democrats who run the state want to drive the other half out too.

That’s the best way to explain the frenzy by Governor Dannel Malloy and the legislature to raise taxes again and blow through a state constitutional spending cap. They’ve been negotiating behind closed-doors over the details of a two-year $40 billion budget that could be revealed this weekend, but it’s already clear that Connecticut residents will pay big time. STATE Budget Vote Expected Later Today

On two-year, $40 billion state budget agreement that boosts taxes on businesses, authorizes keno, and increases personal income taxes on the state’s wealthiest citizens.

CBIA COMMENTS:   Joe Brennan, president and CEO of the Connecticut Business and Industry Association, said Sunday that he doesn’t understand the rationale for taking a state that’s already viewed as “non-competitive” and “making it more non-competitive.”

He said that if the tax package passes, the state will become much less competitive, as highlighted by a Wall Street Journal editorial that was circulating Saturday as budget negotiations were coming to a close.

REPUBLICANS COMMENT:  Senate Minority Leader Len Fasano, R-North Haven, said Sunday that “despite the rhetoric we have heard from the governor, Connecticut is putting a damper on potential for job growth and fiscal stability.”

The Republicans, despite their insistence, were not included in budget negotiations

LAWMAKERS are expected to vote Monday on the two-year, $40 billion state budget agreement that boosts taxes on businesses, authorizes keno, and increases personal income taxes on the state’s wealthiest citizens.

Democratic leaders in the General Assembly struck the budget deal with Democratic Gov. Dannel P. Malloy early Sunday morning. Rank-and-file lawmakers are expected to learn more about what’s in the package later Monday.

When lawmakers emerged from a briefing on the negotiations early Sunday morning, they said the budget maintains the current sales tax rate at 6.35 percent. A half a percent will help fund Malloy’s 30-year, $100 billion transportation initiative, while another portion will help offset the amount of revenue some towns may lose from the new uniform motor vehicle tax rate. STATE REPUBLICANS began the following campaign

on Monday urging concerned taxpayers to call State legislators to defeat the budget.  This too could have impacted the vote or rather lack of!!!!

Here is the Republicans message…..

The majority party of the state finance committee has voted to hike Connecticut taxes AGAIN by NEARLY $2.4 billion RETROACTIVE to January 1.

If they become law, these massive tax increases, on top of $6.4 billion in tax increases over the last four years, will further hurt families and businesses.

You should have a voice in this fight.

On Monday morning, starting at 9 a.m., please take a couple of minutes to make some phone calls.

Call the Governor’s Office at 860-566-4840.
