What programs and services does the state offer
to assist the elderly?
SUMMARY
This report updates OLR Report 2013-R-0251, which describes
select state programs and services for the elderly.
The state's principal elderly services programs provide cash
assistance, energy assistance, health care, housing, legal assistance,
long-term care, nutrition, property tax relief, and transportation. We have
included programs where (1) age is one criterion for eligibility or (2) a large
proportion of the clients are elderly even though the programs are not aimed
solely at that group. Some of these programs are means tested. Some are funded,
in part, with federal money. In addition to the internet links referenced in
the report, additional information on many of these programs may be obtained by
contacting the state's United Way
211 telephone information line.
